How we phase a rewire
We break every rewire into three phases, so you know what's happening when:
- Phase 1 — Survey and design. One day on site with the whole install traced back to the board. We give you a room-by-room plan with sockets, lights, switches and any special items marked up. Fixed price agreed at the end of this.
- Phase 2 — First fix. Chasing, cabling, back-boxes. The house is disruptive during this phase but the power stays on in most rooms most of the day.
- Phase 3 — Second fix. Accessories fitted, board changed over, test and commission. Usually the last 2-3 days.
Living in the house during the work
Most families do stay in the house through a rewire. We phase the work so at least one bedroom and the kitchen stay on the mains at all times. If you're doing a summer STL rewire we can work faster and cheaper because we're not phasing around a family — worth doing during a between-guest gap if you can find one.
Stone walls, lath and plaster — the Highland reality
A lot of houses in Ross-shire have old stone or lath-and-plaster walls where chasing isn't practical. In those cases we use surface conduit (in a colour matched to the wall), skirting-level trunking, or run cabling through the loft and down through the coving. Costs about the same and looks a lot tidier than trying to chase a stone wall.
