The West Coast is a proper drive but it's a run we do more often than most. We're up around Lochinver and the Assynt villages regularly — more than the tourist board would have you believe. Skye, Ullapool, Lochcarron, Applecross too. Salt corrosion, remote installs, off-grid gear — we've seen it and fitted it.
Honest: we're up around Lochinver, Achmelvich, Stoer and the Assynt villages more than any other part of the West Coast. Small local community, lots of holiday lets, quite a few second homes, and a small number of loyal customers who get us in for annual EICRs and PAT. If you're up there, you're probably closer to us than you think — because we're likely to be up that way soon anyway.
Skye is one of the biggest STL markets in the north — half the island is on Airbnb. We do full compliance packages for holiday-let owners on the island. Broadford and Kyle are the easiest to reach. Portree adds another 30 minutes but is doable in a day. Trotternish, Sleat and the north end of the island — usually a two-day trip with an overnight, priced accordingly, and worth it if there's real work to do.
The West Coast eats outdoor electrical gear alive. Junction boxes on garden sheds, outdoor sockets, SWA cable runs to outbuildings — if it wasn't sealed properly it'll be shot within five years. Common job on the coast: retrofitting proper IP66 enclosures, redoing outdoor SWA terminations with correct glands, upgrading garden sockets to weatherproof RCD-protected units. If it looks corroded, don't wait — get it looked at before the wet weather takes it.
Ullapool is the biggest town on the West Coast north of Kyle. Lots of holiday-let work, some commercial (the pubs, the cafés, the ferry-related businesses). Lochcarron is smaller and quieter but there's steady work in second homes and rental cottages. Both are day-trip reachable from Tain and we combine multiple jobs when we're over there.
Applecross via the Bealach na Bà is a proper adventure. We'll do it, but you're paying for the drive and it needs to be worth the trip. Full rewire, a group of properties, a decent-sized STL compliance package — those are the jobs that make the drive make sense. One socket change, we'd honestly steer you to someone based closer.
